On March 24 we rallied in San Francisco with the theme “US Supreme Court: Hands off the Abortion Pill!” We interviewed on our NPR affiliate KQED the day of the rally and it aired the next morning. Yahoo News picked up San Francisco Bay Area ABC7 coverage and even one of our local Chinese language papers the Sing Tao Daily covered the event.

We have been supporting the Stanford University students at their sit-in for Gaza. When the administration threatened to have them disciplined and possibly arrested, we showed up to help defend their encampment. The showdown received national press coverage and were quoted in the Stanford Daily and seen on KTVU-TV.

Once again for reproductive justice countering the anti-abortion marchers that invade San Francisco every year around this time. Were were on major SF Bay Area TV networks, KCBS radio and had a photo in this article in the January 20 issue of the San Francisco Chronicle

Gave commentary on US attacks on Yemen on NBC Bay Area TV Jan 13.

2021 to 2023

Too many press hits to keep close track of during these two years. We can add Bloomberg News, the UK Times, United Press International, and San Francisco’s hottest local blog 48 Hills to our list of top media hits.  The Daily Californian, the student paper at the University of California-Berkeley, featured us in an article about a reproductive rights protest we helped organize on campus in 2022.  The Almanac covered the Justice for Tyre Nichols/Justice for Menlo Park Victims of Police Brutality protest we joined in with Tha Hood Squad in February 2023. In the fall of 2023 we helped organize a demo against TERFs (Trans Exclusionary “Radical Feminists”) who held a convention at a San Francisco hotel, and appeared in the SF Chronicle and El Tecolote

Stop Anti-Asian Violence was the theme of a rally we co-organized on March 27 and tv news was there to cover it with this story.

We advocated for a Children's Welcome Center instead of detention for migrant children and protested in front of a proposed federal site of youth incarceration on March 15. Photograph in the San Jose Mercury News.

On a day that will go down in history, January 6, 2021, Grannies spoke at a press conference in front of San Francisco City Hall, with reaction to the insurrection at the US capitol building shortly after it happened. We were seen on several SF Bay area TV news broadcasts. Photos and video HERE.

Local high school newspaper The Talon covered our participation in one of several Black Lives Matter protests where we helped stop traffic at major intersections in Silicon Valley.

In November We protested a visit by Vice-President Pence to Mountain View, California in November and made a big fuss, crossing onto federal government property to make our demonstration pop! We were featured in press, both local and international.

In September, the LA Times took note of our presence at a protest we helped organize. A ‘Baby Trump’ giant balloon flew high above the president’s first SF Bay area appearance since his election…and we led the chants. Grannies also were highlighted on sfgate.com and NPR affiliate KQED. It’s safe to say we were seen on every SF Bay Area TV news channel as well.

Hyperlocal news: InMenlo reporter Linda Gulker spotted us with a giant Trump chicken inflatable in Portola Valley near a local hot spot.

New York Times photographer Jim Wilson caught up with us at the September Trump protest, his photos are HERE.

Cry me a river! When a local real estate magnate wanted Menlo Park city permission to remove heritage redwood trees, he whined about his potential profit loss to the city council. Disgusted, we fought back at council meetings. This hot local issue was much covered on TV news where Grannies were shown singing our message. We were quoted in the Palo Alto Daily News and the Mercury News

The Stanford Daily reported on our protests near the campus main entrance. Demonstrations included: Demanding Publication of the Mueller Report.  Rallying Against Abortion Bans. We are often joined by students at our demos.

Target: Wells Fargo! The leading lender to the fossil fuel industry raised our ire; the Grannies helped shut down a block in front the bank’s global headquarters in March.  KQED, our Bay Area NPR affiliate, published a photo of us and sfgate.com quoted us.

A Getty Images photo of one of our protests over privacy concerns at Facebook headquarters showed up in a CNN special: Facebook at 15: It’s Complicated.

We were on all local SF Bay Area tv news stations as we sang at multiple rallies to support Christine Blasey Ford when she testified against the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh. The San Jose Mercury covered one of those rallies in Blasey Ford’s hometown of Palo Alto, mentioning our frequent appearances for this cause.

One of our many protests at Facebook HQ over privacy invasion was in Yahoo Finance News and Forbes.com. Photos of us demonstrating in front of the big “LIKE” sign at the expansive campus are showing up all over the world, including Israel, Canada, and India. Nordic News (Finland) interviewed us, then aired THIS news story about our protest, and CBS.com included Getty Images photos of us in THIS report.

All the Bay Area local TV stations covered our demonstrations for gun control in the immediate aftermath of the Parkland, FLA high school shooting. When we came to the aid of high school demonstrators the San Francisco Chronicle posted a lengthy story about the Grannies involvement.

2017 was also a busy year for us press-wise. Here is just a sample.

We have long demonstrated for net neutrality and appeared in CNN-Money in the spring of 2017. Video of us singing in favor of net neutrality was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, years earlier.

BuzzFeedNews streamed us singing live about the government spying on our email.

BELOW are some of our favorite press hits from before 2017:

When the San Jose Mercury exposed the National Guard as having spied on one of our protests, The Progressive magazine covered the issue in dramatic detail, and followed up when the story got even stranger. This incident got us a mention in a Rolling Stone Magazine print edition too!

We were surprised when the National Catholic Reporter asked permission to use our photo to illustrate their article Eden Foods’ Lawsuit Against Contraceptive Mandate Sparks Boycott. In the photo we are seen protesting in front of Whole Foods in Palo Alto, encouraging shoppers to boycott Eden.

One of our protests at Google headquarters was covered by the San Francisco Chronicle; photos of us took up most of the first page of the Business Section the next day.

More from the SF Chronicle (an oldie but goodie with fun photos).

The Huffington Post called us the “infamous Raging Grannies”and the Silicon Valley Business Journal gave us a headline when we protested Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s fundraising party for Republican Chris Christie.
